Project X Zone preview

It would really take a lot from me to consider what I'm about to discuss an actual "preview".  What we have here is a collection of information gathered from the ends of the internet to bring you an update of what looks to be a triple developer crossover fighting game/RPG hybrid butt-fucked into existence for the 3DS by a desperate attempt to stroke the cock of fan-boys everywhere.  That being said, it looks pretty damn cool.

There was a game released a while back called Namco X Capcom that had a similar taste to this title.  It played as a grid based RPG (like FF Tactics or Disgaea) and featured characters that spanned both developer's universes with some sort of interactive battle component.  I of course did not play this title so i don't have much as far as a frame of reference goes.  From what little i can gather from the videos I have seen for this game, there seems to be a real time look to the gameplay.  It honestly looks to play out like a fighting game.  As if you control the team of respective characters to beat the living shit out of the respective universes' baddies.  It is quite stylized and really cool looking.  But it is not a graphical achievement by any stretch.   Our minds can only dream of what a title like this could have looked like with the HD graphics capable on the next-gen systems (or even the PS Vita), but this type of game belongs on a portable system, and I have no objections to playing this title on a 3DS.

The character roster seems to span from everywhere, not even a week ago a slew of new characters were announced to include Frank West from Dead Rising, Hsien-ko from Dark Stalkers, Alisa and Soma from God Eater, and Leanne and Zephyr from Resonance Of Fate (which by the way was a pretty sweet game if you get past the terrible voice work and "story").

As for now the character roster is as follows:

SEGA logoLeanne – Resonance Of Fate
Zephyr – Resonance Of Fate
Sakura Shinguji – Sakura Wars
Ichiro Ogami – Sakura Wars
Toma – Shining Force EXA
Cyrille – Shining Force EXA
Ulala – Space Channel 5

Riela Marcellis – Valkyria Chronicles 3
Akira Yuki – Virtua Fighter
Pai Chan – Virtua Fighter

Demitri Maximoff- Darkstalkers
Hsien-Ko – Darkstalkers
Frank West – Dead Rising
Dante – Devil May Cry
Alisa – God Eater
Soma – God Eater
X – Mega Man X
Zero – Mega Man X
Chris Redfield – Resident Evil
Jill Valentine – Resident Evil
Ryu – Street Fighter
Ken – Street Fighter

Kite – .hack
BlackRose – .hack
Sanger Zonvolt – Super Robot Wars
Yuri Lowelle – Tales Of Vesperia
Estelle – Tales Of Vesperia
Jin Kazama – Tekken
Lin Xiaoyu – Tekken
KOS-MOS – Xenosaga
T-elos – Xenosaga

As you may be aware, my love for fighting games is vast, so the idea of other types of games incorporating characters from some of my favorites is a really exciting concept to me.  Next we need to be able to fire off hadokens in the first person.  Anyways, this game is a cool idea; I love when developers team up for any type of project (even if the end result is pretty lame). Regardless, we can look forward to the release of this game sometime this year for sure.
