Post E3 Roundup: What did you take away?

E3 is over, and what do we have to show for it?  We ooh'd and ahh'd at the shiny new toys santa is going to bring us, and we opened our hearts to the cold and desolate disappointments from some of our fondest loves.  But after all that, we are stuck waiting and wanting. E3 has succeeded once again in ruining the palate for us, now all we can do is hope that these games don't disappoint us when they come out.

So what are you looking forward to the most?  It's no secret that I'm a fighting game fanatic, my love for control of a combo is rivaled only by my insatiable taste for competition.  But E3 didn't have too much to offer a guy like me.  I mean we already had games like P4: arena, DOA5, and Tekken Tag 2 coming out.  And most of us are still shaking off the new game feel of SFxTK.  But that isn't to say we were left in the dark.  We had just recently been given a look into the new Sony All-Stars battle game.  As shameless of a rip on SSB it is, that doesn't mean that it's going to be a bad game by any stretch.  And speaking of SSB, Nintendo has just dropped the bomb on us that Bandai/Namco is the party involved in the development for the next Super Smash Bros. title.  Considering they are the same company behind Goliath fighting franchises like Tekken and Soul Calibur, we might finally get another competitive worthy fighting game to rear it's head on a Nintendo system since Tatsunoko vs. Capcom back in '08.

As for an exciting title revealed at E3, we got to look at NetherRealm's Injustice: Gods Among Us.  This game looks pretty sick, but it better since it has to give us something better than MK vs. DC.  This is of course the first comparison I made when I saw the title since it was the same creator behind MK and it is still using DC characters to fill out the roster.  But judge not by it's quack, it may not be a duck after all right?  The engine is based off of the most recent MK games and as such combat looks similar.  One thing I noticed is that rounds play out kind of like Vampire Saviors.  Meaning that when you defeat your opponent round 1 they simply die mid combo and then you freeze in place as your opponent gets back up for round 2 with another full health bar.  You remain at whatever health you were at when round 1 ended.  So basically like a survival mode but in versus.  The game is great looking, hectic, and very fun to watch. It looks to be an interesting game, whether it will be a tournament played fighter will have to be left up to the community however.

But don't you worry your little head off it if your not the fighting game fan that I am.  Games for every genre were revealed to taunt us with being pretty and far off.  Far Cry 3 and Dishonored looked great for the FPS genre. Dishonored being more of a FPKnife game (very much looking like Thief if you were into that title).  Far Cry 3 has a lot to live up to considering 2 was pretty lame but from what I've seen it looks like we are in for a serious ride.

Action/Adventure titles like Assassin's Creed 3 looks like it'll blow away it's predecessor and I can't wait to see if it delivers. I was a Huge fan of Last of Us for the ps3.  It looked like a survival/action game, a post-apocalyptic Uncharted game with more grit than looks to be possible.  But still, what can be expected when your toting around a young girl though the end of the world?  Beyond Two Souls looked awesome, and if anyone from Heavy Rain is involved, we can anticipate a great story.  So Ellen Paige is the main character...after the trailer you might link of her less as Juno and more like that crazy bitch that keeps blowing shit up and murdering every living soul in a 3 mile radius.  Speaking of over-the-top and excessive violence, Metal Gear Rising: Revengence looked as crazy as you should have anticipated.  I watched a lot of material on this game and I am not sure what to think of it still.  I expect it to disappoint, but it will most certainly be a beautiful looking disappointment if that is the case. And not to mention that epic looking Star Wars 1313.  Thing was like Han Solo meets Die Hard.  Watch Dogs looked super tight as well.  Never seen a game play like that before.  Using your hacking skills to cause car accidents or gather intimate intel on anybody around you seemed really cool.  Has a stealthy element to it as well, with a noir look about the environment...all in all I'd say this game looks to be a unique gem.

For the less action savvy we've got games like Need for Speed Most wanted showing a brilliant multiplayer capacity for racing games.  It may have taken a lot of inspiration from the burnout series with it's ridiculously cinematic crash's and over the top nitro mechanics.  But this game holds it's own with randomly generated challenges mid race along with some seriously impressive looking blur and road effects.  Pikmin 3 to bring out the inner workings of your nostalgia along with some crazy fun RTS style puzzle/action.  I loved the first 2 games, and even though this title doesn't appear to change much, the game was awesome enough for me that it's just what I want from them.  And who could ignore South Park: The Stick of Truth?  That game has all sorts of style and humor rolled into a trailer that was surprisingly inviting and well put together.  You wouldn't take South Park for the epic game, but it looks pretty awesome...and racist.

E3 may not have been everything we wanted as an event.  Lots of show boating celebrities and extended speeches about shit we just don't care about.  But when you can look past the shimmer, we walked away with some pretty awesome titles coming our way.  Sure we may have already has some knowledge before on these games, but the trailers and information exposed will allow us to hold off until these release dates come to fruition. Until then, I'm going back to being a lazy and unmotivated sack of shit.

Don't worry, we've got trailers, your covered:
